Introduction
Articulated ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Articulated mobile application (the "App"), an AI-powered speech coaching platform that helps users improve their communication skills through recorded speaking practice and post-session analysis.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. Please read this policy carefully. By accessing or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this policy, please do not access or use the App.
Information We Collect
Account Information
We may create an anonymous account identifier before you sign in so your onboarding progress, evaluations, subscription status, and app data can be connected to a stable account. If you later sign in with Google, Apple, or email, that anonymous account may be linked to your signed-in account. Depending on how you use the App, we collect:
- Anonymous account identifiers and Firebase user IDs
- Email address and display name, when you provide them
- Authentication tokens managed securely by Firebase Auth
Voice Recordings
During speaking practice sessions, we capture your voice input for processing and analysis. This includes sending audio and related practice context to third-party processors as described in the dedicated "Voice Data" section below.
Usage and Analytics Data
We automatically collect certain information about how you interact with the App, including:
- Screens viewed and features used
- Session frequency, duration, and scenarios practiced
- Device type, operating system, and app version
- Language and locale preferences
- Onboarding, paywall, trial, subscription, and notification interaction events
- Campaign, referral, and attribution information when available
- The Android advertising ID (GAID) when enabled in production and permitted by platform settings and applicable law; on iOS, the advertising identifier (IDFA) only after Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission
- General performance metrics (load times, errors encountered)
Advertising Measurement and iOS Tracking Permission
The App measures campaign performance using selected lifecycle events, subject to platform settings and applicable law. We do not show a separate Articulated advertising-measurement consent or provide an advertising-measurement toggle in the App's Profile. On iOS, we show an explanatory screen before asking Apple to display its native App Tracking Transparency prompt, and the native prompt appears only if you continue. If you do not continue or Apple does not authorize tracking, we do not enable the IDFA, substitute another identifier, or enable Apple-defined cross-company tracking. You can change Apple's permission later in iOS Settings. First-party analytics, subscription verification, Apple AdServices attribution, and privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork measurement may remain available without ATT authorization. Selected lifecycle events may also be sent through Tenjin without the IDFA so we can measure conversions in a limited form; this does not enable the IDFA or authorize Apple-defined cross-company tracking. Google and Tenjin ad-personalization signals remain disabled in our measurement configuration.
Notifications and Device Data
If you enable push notifications or reminders, we may collect and use push notification tokens, platform, permission status, locale, timezone, app version, delivery status, open events, and reminder preferences so we can send and measure service-related reminders. You can disable notifications through your device settings or the App's reminder controls.
Crash Reports
When the App experiences an error or crash, we collect diagnostic data including stack traces, device state information, and the sequence of actions leading to the issue. This data does not contain personal content such as voice recordings or conversation transcripts.
Subscription Data
If you purchase a subscription, we receive transaction confirmation and subscription status information from our subscription management provider and the app store where you made the purchase. We do not receive or store your payment card details, bank information, or other financial credentials. Payment processing is handled by Apple through the App Store or by Google through Google Play, depending on where you purchase.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Provide and maintain the service: To operate the App, authenticate your identity, process your voice input during practice sessions, and deliver personalized speech analysis and feedback.
- Improve the App: To understand usage patterns, diagnose technical issues, and develop new features that better serve our users.
- Manage subscriptions: To verify your subscription status and ensure you have access to the features included in your plan.
- Communicate with you: To respond to your support requests, send service-related notices, and provide updates about changes to our terms or policies.
- Send reminders: To deliver reminders, trial notices, and notification-based follow-ups when you enable them.
- Measure acquisition: To understand whether marketing, referrals, or app store traffic leads to installs, onboarding, trials, subscriptions, and meaningful product use.
- Ensure security: To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and technical issues.
Voice Data
We understand that voice data is particularly sensitive, and we have designed our system with your privacy as a priority.
How Voice Data Is Processed
When you engage in a conversation practice session, your voice is:
- Captured by your device and transmitted securely (via HTTPS) to our servers for processing
- Processed by third-party transcription services to convert audio to text
- Processed by third-party analysis services, along with the transcript and relevant practice context such as selected scenario, language, duration, and scoring dimensions, to generate coaching analysis and feedback
- Used to generate speech metrics across dimensions such as clarity, pace, confidence, filler word usage, vocal variety, conciseness, and fluency
Voice Data Retention
Your raw voice recordings are not stored permanently. Audio data is processed in real-time during your session and is discarded from our processing servers once the session ends and your analysis results have been generated. We retain transcripts, scores, metrics, generated feedback, session timestamps, language, scenario, drill type, and related practice metadata with your account so you can track your progress over time. We do not retain the original audio after processing.
What We Do Not Do With Your Voice Data
- We do not sell your voice recordings to third parties
- We do not use your voice recordings to train our machine learning models
- We do not create voice profiles or biometric identifiers from your recordings
- We do not retain audio files beyond the duration needed for real-time session processing
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services and processor categories to operate the App. Named services have their own privacy policies governing how they handle your data. We require third-party services that receive personal data from Articulated to protect it under confidentiality, security, and use restrictions that provide the same or equal protection described in this Privacy Policy and required by applicable App Store privacy guidelines:
Firebase and Google Cloud Services
We use Firebase and Google Cloud services for authentication, app integrity checks, data storage, cloud hosting, push notifications, and crash diagnostics. When you sign in with Google, Apple, or email, Firebase receives and stores authentication credentials. These services are operated by Google and are subject to the Google Privacy Policy.
Firebase Analytics and Google Ads (Advertising Measurement)
We use Firebase Analytics to record limited app usage and conversion events, such as account creation, checkout, trial, and subscription events. We may import those events into Google Ads to measure campaigns and improve campaign performance. Google may receive event names, timestamps, device and app information, campaign information, and the Android advertising ID (GAID). Our iOS Firebase Analytics integration does not collect the IDFA. Android advertising storage and ad-user-data signals are enabled for production measurement where permitted. On iOS, any such signals are governed by ATT, although Firebase Analytics is disabled in our current iOS production configuration. Advertising personalization signals remain disabled. We do not send voice recordings, transcripts, prompts, or generated coaching feedback to Firebase Analytics or Google Ads. Learn more in the Firebase privacy documentation.
Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, and Email Sign-In
We offer sign-in through Google, Apple, and email to simplify account creation. Google and Apple share limited profile information, such as name and email, with us upon your authorization. You can manage the permissions granted to Articulated through your Google or Apple account settings at any time. Apple Sign-In also offers the option to hide your email address, in which case Apple provides a private relay address.
Speech Transcription and Coaching Analysis Processors
We use specialized third-party processors to transcribe voice recordings and generate coaching feedback, recommendations, and analysis. These processors receive only the audio, transcript, scoring metrics, selected practice context, and related prompts needed to provide the requested coaching experience, and we require them to process that data only for authorized service purposes.
Crash and Error Reporting Services
We use crash and error reporting services to diagnose reliability issues. These services may receive stack traces, logs, device and operating system information, app version, and recent app activity leading to an error. We do not intentionally send voice recordings, transcripts, prompts, or generated coaching feedback to these services.
PostHog (Analytics)
We use PostHog to collect App and marketing-website usage analytics and operational metrics, which helps us understand how our services are used and where we can improve. PostHog may process device and browser information, session data, interaction events, campaign and referral parameters, social-profile link requests, approximate location derived from an anonymized network prefix, and technical performance metrics. We do not send voice recordings, transcripts, prompts, or generated coaching feedback to PostHog. You can learn more in the PostHog Privacy Policy.
Meta App Events (Advertising Measurement)
We use the Meta client integration for upper-funnel advertising measurement, including app activation, onboarding completion, paywall views, and checkout intent. RevenueCat's server-side Conversions API integration is the sole source of verified StartTrial and Subscribe events sent to Meta. We configure RevenueCat to attempt this server-side lifecycle delivery even when ATT is not authorized. This is a best-effort delivery setting, not permission to track and not a way to bypass ATT: it does not enable the Meta client integration or IDFA, and a fresh iOS user who has not authorized ATT may lack the match information Meta and RevenueCat require, so an event may not be delivered or attributed. For those users, we rely on privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork and aggregate measurement where available and do not substitute another identifier.
Meta and RevenueCat may process app event names, timestamps, device and app information, limited event metadata, and, where permitted and available, app instance identifiers, advertising identifiers, and a hashed email address that you supplied. On iOS, the Meta client integration, its event delivery, app identity, IDFA access, and Apple-defined advertiser tracking remain disabled until ATT authorization. On Android, the client integration and advertiser tracking are enabled in our production build where permitted. We do not send voice recordings, transcripts, prompts, or generated coaching feedback to Meta. For more information, see the Meta Privacy Policy.
Tenjin (Mobile Attribution)
We use Tenjin as a mobile measurement partner to determine whether an install, trial, or subscription resulted from an advertising campaign. Tenjin may receive an app installation identifier, campaign and referral information, timestamps, device and app information, selected lifecycle and subscription events, and an advertising identifier when available and permitted by platform settings and applicable law. On iOS, Tenjin remains connected and may receive selected lifecycle events and a permitted app/vendor installation identifier when ATT is not authorized, but it does not receive the IDFA. Apple-defined cross-company tracking remains disabled unless ATT is authorized, while privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork values may still be updated without authorization. Tenjin's Google DMA ad-user-data signal follows that platform state, and its ad-personalization signal remains disabled. We do not send voice recordings, transcripts, prompts, or generated coaching feedback to Tenjin. For more information, see the Tenjin Privacy Policy.
TikTok Advertising Measurement
The App's TikTok Business SDK remains disabled in production builds and does not initialize or send data directly from the App. Tenjin may send limited campaign attribution and selected standard lifecycle events, such as an install, trial start, or subscription, to TikTok for Business to measure and optimize advertising where platform settings and applicable law permit. On iOS, selected events may be delivered without the IDFA when ATT is not authorized, but IDFA-based matching and Apple-defined cross-company tracking remain disabled. We do not send voice recordings, transcripts, prompts, generated coaching feedback, contact details, or your external account identifier to TikTok. Any future activation of the client SDK will require an updated privacy review and applicable platform permission. You can review the TikTok Privacy Policy.
RevenueCat (Subscription Management)
We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions and purchases. RevenueCat processes subscription events and status information received from Apple or Google. It does not have access to your payment credentials. We may also send an email address you provide, limited attribution identifiers, and campaign information to RevenueCat to connect subscription events with app install or campaign source. RevenueCat may send selected verified subscription lifecycle events and permitted matching data to advertising partners such as Meta as described above. For more information, see the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as necessary to provide the services you have requested and to fulfill the purposes described in this policy:
- Account information: Retained for as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, your personal data is removed within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer.
- Voice recordings: Not stored permanently. Processed in real-time and discarded once the session analysis is complete.
- Analysis results: Transcripts, scores, metrics, and generated feedback are retained with related session metadata for the duration of your account so you can track your progress over time. Deleted upon account deletion.
- Notification data: Retained while needed to deliver reminders and service notifications, and deleted or deactivated when your account is deleted or the token is no longer valid.
- Usage analytics: Retained in anonymized or aggregated form. Individual session data is automatically purged after 12 months.
- Crash reports: Retained for up to 90 days for diagnostic purposes, then automatically deleted.
You can request account deletion in the App or through our account deletion page. Deleting your Articulated account does not automatically cancel any active subscription with Apple or Google; you must cancel that subscription through the app store where you purchased it.
