A 5-minute vocabulary practice routine
Put a new word into a real sentence. Watch Sabrena walk through vocabulary practice in Articulated, then use the four steps below for your next speaking session.
Try this example
Choose concise, meaning brief and clear. Answer: “What makes a useful meeting update?” You might say: “A concise update explains what changed and what needs to happen next.” Add one example from your own experience.
Articulated lets you record speaking practice and review personalized feedback. Available on iPhone and Android.
Follow the routine
Use about five minutes as a practice window. The goal is to use a word accurately and naturally in context; progress takes repeated practice.
- Step 1
Choose one word
Start with a word you understand but rarely use. Read its meaning and an example, then think of a situation where you might naturally say it.
- Step 2
Use it in a spoken answer
Speak for up to two minutes about a familiar topic. Work the word into a sentence that fits your meaning. Choose a simpler word if it would make the point clearer.
- Step 3
Review one piece of feedback
Listen to your recording and review the feedback in Articulated. Pick one thing to adjust, such as a vague phrase, an unnecessary detail, or a sentence that was hard to follow.
- Step 4
Try the answer again
Record a shorter second attempt with that one change. Compare the two answers. Finish by writing a sentence you could use in a real conversation.
